History Of Electricity In America

For thousand of years, people all over the world have been fascinated by lightning. Some people must have wondered how to put that kind of power to practical use. But it wasn't until the 18th century that the path to the everyday use of electrical power began to take shape.

Maybe you have heard about the famous kite experiment by American Founding Father and inventor Benjamin Franklin. In 1752, to prove that lightning was electrical, he flew a kite during a thunderstorm.

He tried a metal key onto the string and as he suspected it would electricity from the storm clouds flowed down the string, which was wet and he received an electrical shock. Franklin was extremely lucky not to have been seriously hurt during this experiment, but he was excited to have proved his idea.

Throughout the next hundred years, many inventors and scientist tried to find a way to use electrical power to make light. In 1879, the American inventor Thomas Edison was finally able to produce a reliable, long lasting electric light bulb in his laboratory.

By the end of the 1880s, small electrical station based on Edison's designs were in a number of U.S cities. But each station was able to power only a few city blocks.

Although the majority of people living in larger towns and cities had electricity by 1930, only 10% of Americans who lived on farms and in rural areas had electric power. At this time, electric companies were all privately owned and run to make money. These companies argued that it would be too expensive to string miles of electric lines to farms. They also thought farmers were too poor to pay for electric service.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt believed strongly that American's farming areas should have the same access to electricity as cities did. In 1935 the Rural Electric Administration was created to bring electricity to rural areas like the Tennessee Valley.
Today, American's standard of living has risen as nearly everyone has electric power at home, school and at work.

Top Historical Places In The World

Machu Picchu

Located in southern Peru, this ruined city lies on top of a mountain that's only accessible by train or a four day trek. Rediscovered by Hiram Bingham in 1911, it was an important cultural center for the lnca civilization but was abandoned when the Spanish invaded the region. The location was made a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1983 and it was named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in 2007. Concerns over growing numbers of tourists have led to limitation on how many people can enter the site, though only by a fraction of what is necessary. Hopefully they will limit it even more so this site can last for hundreds of years more.

Tikal

This Mayan city state is one of the largest and best preserved ruins of that civilization and was a dominant force in the Mayan world during the Classic Period (200-900 AD). Located in Guatemala, this place lets you experience your inner Indiana Jones early in the morning or late at night when the tourists go home and it's just you and the jungle. It is very serene and that made for one of the bet travel memories I have. Be sure to spend the night in the park, as you then really get to see it without the crowds. I particularly enjoyed seeing the sunrise from atop the temples.

Stonehenge

Located near Salisbury, England, this megalithic structure is over 3,000 years old and its stones come all the way from Wales. Scholars still are not sure how the builders got the stones there and have tried to replicate the feat, with dismal results. Moreover, we only have a vague idea to its purpose.

Easter Island

Located out in the Pacific Ocean, Easter Island, a special territory of Chile, is home to Moai statues that are the only thing left of a culture that once lived here. These gigantic and impressively carved heads are just another reminder that primitive people were not really all that primitive. The stones that attract visitors to this island are made out of volcanic ash; many still remain in the quarry, left behind by the inhabitants as diminishing resources on the island left their tribes doomed to wars that finally killed them off.

The Great Wall Of China

The Great Wall of China actually consists of numerous walls and fortifications. It was originally conceived by Emperor Qin Shi Huang (ca.259-210 BC) in the third century BC as a means of keeping out the Mongol hordes invading the country. The best known and best preserved section of the Great Wall was built in the 14th through 17th centuries, during the Ming dynasty (1368-1644). Though the Great Wall never effectively prevented invaders from entering China, it's still a massive engineering and construction feat and human accomplishment.

How to Introduce Yourself at a Job Interview

1: The Best Way to Introduce Yourself at a Job Interview

When you arrive at the interview site introduce yourself to the receptionist by starting your name and the purpose of your visit. For example: "My name is Tom Jones and I have an interview scheduled with John Smith at 2 pm."
You will either be escorted to the interview room or the hiring manager will come out to meet you in the reception area. Again, take the time to introduce yourself so the interview knows who you are.
Offer to shake hands, even if the interview doesn't offer their hand first. it's good etiquette to include a handshake as part of your introduction. Tell the interview that it is a pleasure to meet them, smile and be sure to make eye contact. For example: "I'm Tina Lionel, it's a pleasure to meet you".
Tip: To avoid sweaty palms, stop in the restroom prior to the interview and wash and dry your hands. If that's not feasible, use a tissue to dry off your hands ahead of time.

2: Keep Your Introduction Short and Concise

You'll have an opportunity to introduce yourself on an indepth basis during the interview. Many hiring managers will start an interview with an open ended question like "Tell me about yourself". The core of your response should focus on the key elements in your background which will enable you to excel in the job for which you are interviewing.
Your introduction should be concise enough to hold the interest of the interviewer. Generally, a quick recap of your most compelling qualifications will suffice. You could also throw in a couple of tidbits which are not essential to the job, but reflect your person like the fact that you are an avid skier, have performed at comedy clubs or collect African art. Your goal is to connect personally with the interviewer as well as to show that you're qualified for the job.

3: Manners Matter at Job Interviews

Manners matter during a job interview. Regardless of the job you are applying for, you will be expected to act professionally throughout every phase of the interview process from greeting the interviewer to saying thank you after your interview.

Bill Gates

Bill Gates

William Henry Gates III (Bill) was born on October 28, 1955, in Seattle, Washington. Bill was the second of three children in an upper middle class family. He enjoyed playing games with the family and was very competitive. He also loved to read. Bill became bored in public school so his family sent him to Lakeside school, a private school, where he excelled in math and science and did well in drama and English.

Gates became interested in computer programming when he was 13, during the era of giant mainframe computers. His school held a fund raiser to purchase a teletype terminal so students could use computer time that was donated by General Electric. Using this time, Gates wrote a tic-tac-toe program using BASIC, one of the first computer languages. Later he created a computer version of Risk, a board game he liked in which the goal is world domination. At Lakeside, Bill met Paul Allen, who shared his interest in computers. Gates and Allen and two other students hacked into a computer belonging to computer center corporation to get free computer time but were caught. After a period of probation, they were allowed back in the computer lab when they offered to fix glitches CCC's software. At age 17, Gates and Allen were paid $20,000 for a program called Traf-O-Data that was used to count traffic.

In early 1973, Bill Gates served as a congressional page in the U.S. House of Representative. He scored 1590 out of 1600 on the SAT and was accepted by Harvard University. Steve Ballmer, who became CEO of Microsoft after Bill retired, was also a Harvard student. Meanwhile, Paul Allen dropped out of Washington College to work on computers at Honeywell Corporation and convinced Gates to drop out of Harvard and join him in starting a new software company in Albuquerque, New Mexico. They called it Micro-soft. This was soon changed to Microsoft and they moved their company to Bellevue, Washington.

In 1980, IBM, one of the largest technology companies of the era, asked Microsoft to write software to run their new personal computer, the IBM PC. Microsoft kept licensing rights for the operating system (MS-DOS) so that they earned money for every computer sold first by IBM and later by all the other companies that made PC computers.
Bill Gates is one of the richest men in the world.

Drug Addiction

Drugs are ugly monsters that are sapping and sucking all the energy and lifeblood of the young people. They are turning homes into hell.

"Where youth grows pale, spectre-thin and dies."

Thus they have become the most horrible danger for the modern world. A few years back only the developed countries were facing the problem of drug addiction among the people. But now it is spreading in the developing countries also.

Drug is a medicine that is basically used to cure a disease or soothe a patient. But when it is used freely and frequently without medical advice, it becomes an addiction as it intoxicates its user. People take to them within a few days. Some people start taking them as fun but soon fall a prey to their addiction. But mostly people take to them because of their mental worries caused by unemployment. sexual perversion, protracted illness or some financial or social problem.

Drug addicts are usually escapists who do not have the courage to face the realities of life. They lose their will power and are not able to abandon it. They don't want to be cured even when they know that drug addiction is killing them.

The effects of drug addiction are horrible. It clutches its prey forever and makes him totally invalid in the society. He becomes unable to earn his livelihood. He uses different methods including theft and murder to get money so that he may buy heroin or some other drug. It mars his health. It affects the mind and paralyses it. He is no more a normal human being. He forgets his status, duties, responsibilities and even himself. He is ruined and with him his family is also ruined.

Many political figures have their links with the drug mafia or are themselves involve din the business. Drug barons openly use money in financing election campaigns of political parities and individual politicians who return the favor by extending an umbrella of protection to the drug business and its notorious traffickers.

Drug addiction should be treated as a disease which needs to by cured. It is a medical, psychiatric and sociological problem and government should make arrangement to solve this problem on these lines. Drug addicts should be treated in government hospitals where specialists be appointed to look into the causes of drug addiction. Drug traffickers should be awarded death sentence and all their property should be confiscated.

Thus the project brings wealth and prosperity across the region, particularly in Pakistan. But on the other hand, Pakistan is facing serious threats from terrorism and extremism since 2001.The most unstable part is Baluchistan, where Gawadar Port is located.

The Port Gawadar has geoeconomic importance for China and Pakistan for their longer term interests. The port will handle all the cargo which will flow from China to Persian Gulf and Africa. Contrary port will provide a safer and shortest route to Chines energy supplies through logistic route across Pakistan. The Baluchistan province is most vulnerable than other areas of the country.
